Here, caregivers of Child care centers have shared some simple ideas to make a Harry Potter wand with materials easily available at home. So, what are you waiting for to make a wizard wand for your kid!

Easy Steps to Make a Harry Potter Wand:

Here is how you can make a magic wand using materials that are mostly available at home. If not, you can easily get them from your nearby stationary/craft store.

Things you need:

  • A wooden dowel – 26 cm to 33 cm long
  • Sandpaper – 1 (3x3 inch)
  • Hot glue gum
  • Big button (big enough to cover the bottom of the stick) - 1
  • Acrylic color– black/brown/white (any color of your choice)
  • Acrylic sealer
  • Paintbrushes – 2

How to make a Harry Potter wand:

In San Marino, CA Montessori schools, children follow the below-mentioned steps under the guidance of their craft teacher to make Harry Potter wand.

  • First, take the wooden dowel. Although these dowels are available in the market, you can also use a chopstick, pencil, or a wooden object that seems apt for a wand.
  • Alternatively, you can pick up a stick from your backyard. But if you are using a wooden stick for making the wand, please make sure the stick is not thicker than the girth of your finger.
  • Then, take the sandpaper and scrape the stick for a smoother look. It is an important step to get rid of any sharp, jagged, or rough ends.
  • Dust the stick nicely. You can even clean it with a damp cloth to remove all the wooden dust.
  • Now, take the glue gun and form a handle on the stick, which should not be bigger than the size of your finger. To make the handle, you can cover the entire length of the handle part of the stick with glue.
  • Stick the button at the end of the stick to form a knob.
  • Make some design on the wand with hot glue, clay, or tape to give it some texture. Let the glue/clay dry up completely before you go to the next step.
  • Child Care teachers encourage children to paint the stick with acrylic colors. Here they can use any color of their choice.
  • After the paint dries up, seal the paint with an acrylic sealer. It will secure the color. You can skip this step, but doing this will make the color last longer and your wand will look bright.
  • Place the wand on a piece of paper and keep it out in the sun to dry properly.

You can encourage your kids to make their wand using these simple steps. However, make sure proper care and precautions are exercised while handling scissors, using the glue gun, or paint as these activities sometimes may get a bit risky for your young Harry Potters.
